Alexander Calder + Vivian Maier - Works on Paper + Colour Photographs
Separate exhibitions set across the galleries two floors.
Alexander Calder (1898-1976) - On show is a set of fifteen works on paper. Although well known for his three dimensional work, the bold and vivid visual vocabulary of his sculptures can be felt here on paper with use of bold primary colours, natural and celestial motifs and geometric forms.
Vivian Maier (1926 -2009) - lesser known colour works dating from between 1960 to 1984 depicting street scenes of Chicago and New York, as well as self-portraits.
Maier worked in secret and never exhibited during her lifetime. She left behind in excess of 150,000 photographic images – in the form of prints as well as negatives, transparencies and rolls of undeveloped film.
