New Work - Mixed Medium

Andrew Gillespie - Precinct

"Through the use of ready-made sculptures alongside nuanced interventions of the artist’s hand, Gillespie’s practice brings into focus friction in the everyday. Revolving around the application of print, the appropriation of forms and imagery lifted from popular culture he offers an uncanny take on the familiar. Photocopied reproductions of work by pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein sit alongside synthetic copies of clothing and creatures. Gillespie weaves an ambiguous narrative as he populates an enclosure of his own concoction.

With the architecture of PALFREY in mind, a new collection of images and objects are compressed, attached and translated into a range of materials, aligning in liminal space."

Andrew Gillespie’s recent exhibitions include Some Kinda Love, Gallery Celine, Glasgow (2019); Sinkhole, Outpost, Norwich (2017); Anti-Scrape, The New Art Gallery Walsall (2017). He lives and works in Birmingham where he organises Recent Activity, a curatorial project delivering a programme of exhibitions and events.
