New Work - Mixed Medium

Farrah Riley Gray - Rockin’ Locs

A new body of work and site specific installation from Farrah Riley Gray.

Rockin’ Locs seeks to investigate the relationship between a local neighbourhood’s relationship to afro hair and how marginalised communities can be given representation in-with art and art spaces.

The space will host a single large textile hair piece viewable via the street for a passing audience whilst playing an audio containing intimate conversations between the artist and her various family members.

The exhibition reflects on the interventions previously experienced at gentrified gallery openings in various parts of Black London, by incorporating a local church’s generosity, serving soul food on the opening of the exhibition, questioning the process of what conventions we could seek to resolve within homogenised contemporary art.
