In March 2022(part I) and May 2022 (part II) , a group of ASC Brixton and ASC Kennington Court based artists will show their work in an intervention in the former Lambeth County Court in Kennington. The stunning 1928 Art Deco building has been used for artistic purposes by ASC since 2018.
It’s fair to say that in the contemporary era, objectivity ceases to be the primary and universal intention of painting. The subjectivity of the painter is from now on the centre which turns the objective world. The subjectivity questions, transforms and organises it as it pleases. The artist himself ceases to be subjected to it, contrary to what happens in the tradition. The challenging attraction for a dialogue as we re-emerge from the pandemic using this County Court as a medium reassures the dynamic drive of the “I CELEBRATE myself” intervention and re-enforces its legibility.
