Group Show - Rites of Spring

Daily: 12-6pm

'Winter is a time of relative ease. Come the Spring Equinox our larders become ghost houses, and the trees are still dreaming. There is nothing left but breathing bodies, hope and stories of seeds: seeds we must plant and plough for fruitlessly in all the weather we know, in the Spring.'

The Spring Equinox has traditionally been a time for considering the past, present, and the future; as such it has always made sense to human beings to witness this moment with festivals and rituals.

Following in this tradition, Rites of Spring is a group exhibition and arts event that seeks to muse upon, interrogate and mark the phenomenon of Spring. Each artist has been invited to bring their own personal interpretation of the themes and notions of the Springtime. The event will coincide with the Spring Equinox (the first day of Spring) and the assembled works and performances will form what we hope will be a rite worthy of its season.

At a time of climate instability when the signs of the seasons have become, and are becoming increasingly vague, Rites of Spring asserts the role of artists in observing the passing of one season and the arrival of another.
