Haidee Becker’s last exhibition was five years ago, since when there have been momentous events both in her private life and globally. Her new figure paintings as well as still life subjects including fish, game and flowers are variously poignant; the term ‘still life’, in the context of Becker’s recent experiences, cannot do them justice as they are, quintessentially, allegorical images. Paintings are charged with messages about life, its meanings, its morals and, most saliently, its fundamental brevity.
