Halim A. Flowers

As part of its Frieze 2022 exhibition programme The Bomb Factory is committed to showcasing events and artists with wider inclusivity in mind. In keeping with this ideal, they will be welcoming Halim A. Flowers, a multidisciplinary artist from Washington DC. This is Flower’s inaugural European exhibition entitled ‘Ultracrepidarian’

An artist, writer, designer, speaker, activist and social justice entrepreneur, this Renaissance man has had a checkered past. Having been wrongly imprisoned at the age of 16, as an accomplice to murder, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison in Washington DC. His experiences as a young teenager in jail were filmed in the award-winning documentary ‘Thug Life in DC’.

For the next 22 years, whilst incarcerated, he learnt the rules of business and criminal law by reading the Wall Street Journal, he also managed to publish 11 books, which include memoirs, self-help books and poetry via his own company, SATO Communications.

Flowers recounts: “I was held in a cage for 22 years, where I began crafting my personal method of artistic expression to find some sense of peace in a hopeless place before my resurrection back into the “real” world.” I
