New Work - Installation & Collage

Ibrahim Mahama - Lazarus

Featuring installation, sculpture and collage, the exhibition is the result of months of research at Nkrumah Volini in Northern Ghana, an abandoned concrete silo hosting a large colony of bats, which Mahama recently re-purposed into a cultural hub.

The title for the show is taken from the installation Lazarus (2021), comprising a group of suspended sculptures made of metal rebar draped with tarpaulin, resembling cloaked figures or large bats.

A installation titled Capital Corpses (2021) continues Mahama’s investigation into Ghana’s history. One hundred rusted metal sewing machines affixed to wooden school desks are sectioned and activated in turn by a timer, creating a patterned cacophony of noise.
