Lewisham London Borough of Culture 2022

"Lewisham London Borough of Culture 2022 will celebrate Lewisham’s rich history of activism through music, dance, public art and more. A bold programme will put critical issues at its heart, from a call to action on the climate emergency to a celebration of its Borough of Sanctuary."

Day One
‘Day One’ will set the tone for the year, drawing on the borough’s rich history of activism, to bring communities together and inspire positive change. Residents will have the opportunity to ‘make their mark’ across the borough with key high impact pop-up performances and events happening indoors and outdoors, on the street, in schools and in venues throughout the day.

Events throughout the day include:
Commuter commotions – Celebrating the musical spirit of Lewisham, community music groups from across the borough and Trinity Laban Composition students will create a series of pop up performances involving local music makers. Performances will take place in Lewisham stations.

Artists in residence - Led by poet Jacob Sam-la Rose, Artist in Residence will see all 18 wards invite an artist to create work for and with the local community. This day-long celebration and invitation to get involved will spread across the entire borough.

Projections - A new film that weaves together the identity of Lewisham by showcasing photos and clips of diverse people – artists, community members, local heroes and famous faces. This will be projected onto the side of Lewisham Shopping Centre as well as in three other Lewisham locations.
