Megan Baker - Where the Ground Meets the Sky

Tue-Fri: 10-6pm; Sat: 11-4pm

GJG is delighted to invite you to the opening of ‘Where the Ground Meets the Sky’ by Megan Baker. The artist’s first solo show explores the themes of memory and time through abstract-figurative landscape. Echoing the flourishing hills and the tenuous glow of the British countryside, Baker's canvases become representative of something familiar, that we might recognise without ever having seen.

Megan Baker’s oil paintings portray fragmented figures interrupted by the immediacy of the medium. Baker uses paint to expand and extend time in a world where everyday encounters feel so instant and condensed. In turn, the perception of time shifts and evolves as we are absorbed by the search and discovery of the next hidden detail.

Dualities collide in Baker’s practice: abstraction and figuration, real and imagined, hidden and found. This series displays a wide array of influences, from Tarkovsky's films and Didion's literature, to Elgar's compositions and the masterpieces of Tiepolo and Natoire.
