Late C20th-Early C21st - Photography
Olivier Malingue is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Nobuyoshi Araki’s photographs, featuring works spanning the breadth of his career. The selected images offer an overarching view of the leading recurrent subjects that have consumed Araki ever since he published his first photobook in 1970.
A cult figure whose reputation proceeds him, Nobuyoshi Araki falls within a broad category of transgressive post-war photographers whose interest resides in documenting the truth. Araki’s irrepressible approach to photography is, in the purest sense, a revelation of his most intimate moments and interests laid bare through the honesty of his photographic practice.
The photos presented in this exhibition touch upon many of Araki’s favoured subjects drawn from some of Araki’s most celebrated series, including: Tokyo Nostalgia, Tokyo Nude, Tokyo Comedy, Kinbaku, and Flowers.
