New Work - Painting

Orlanda Broom - Shapeshifters

A British contemporary abstract painter living in Hampshire with an art studio in London, Orlanda Broom is renowned for her large abstract commission “Sir Peter Blake” in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel London and her large 4x4m piece “Manna-Hata” for the lobby of the Four Seasons Downtown New York. Her work “Pahoehoe Flowers” was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2021 and hangs in the Wohl Central Hall.

Her colourful landscapes represent re-imagined places which are celebratory, and in some senses, a rose-tinted view of the natural world. The surface joyousness is tempered by an uneasy sense of abandonment. She depicts wild places that are uninhabited and timeless, offering a glimpse of paradise that would ultimately ensnare and/or is potentially lost to us.

Orlanda Broom’s main practice is painting which takes two distinct forms: lush, exotic landscapes and abstract pieces. Connecting these bodies of work is a strong sense of colour, references to organic forms and the exploration of the mediums she works with.
