Richard's oil paintings offer a glimpse of retro-futuristic scenarios that focus on transport and technology, with deeply atmospheric approaches to tone and palette. On viewing his work one is transported into a sci-fi dream world, but with closer inspection its power is rooted firmly in more tactile and human associations - the reassuring comfort of upholstery and interior space, the sense of cocooned quiet it offers, and the undeniable warmth of human presence. In questioning whether such an ideal sense of intimacy is ever really possible, however, Richard’s glowing scenes are flooded with a deep ache of melancholy.

Richard has studied at both Slade and the Royal College of Art. He has been exhibited internationally, at spaces including South London Gallery, Saatchi and Fabian Lang.
