Sybil Andrews & Cyril Power - Cutting Through Time
Samuel Osbourne pleased to announce a special exhibition of linocuts, drawings, monotypes and poster designs by Sybil Andrews (1898-1992) and Cyril Power (1872-1951) to launch a new book titled Sybil and Cyril: Cutting Through Time by Jenny Uglow, a renowned British biographer, historian, critic and publisher. She has written many critically acclaimed books including biographies of Elizabeth Gaskell, William Hogarth, Thomas Bewick, and Edward Lear.
This book tells the story of the long friendship between these two remarkable artists who were the leading protagonists of the Grosvenor School of Modern Art where a revolutionary new method of linocutting was taught by Claude Flight (1881-1955) during the 1920s and ‘30s.
Their iconic prints, hand-printed in small editions, are always in great demand and feature in the collections of the world’s major museums
