For this unique evening, artist Sophia Al-Maria and chef Charlton Nicoll, together with The Artist Dining Room, will create a night based on Etel Adnan's famous poem The Arab Apocalypse (1989).

This Artist Dining Room will celebrate Etel Adnan as one of this century’s most important poets and artists.

The symbol of the Sun becomes a powerful, recurrent motif throughout Adnan's work. In 1975, with the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War, Adnan would bear witness to the bombs falling on the city of Beirut, from her apartment balcony. As a testament to the conflict, she began writing The Arab Apocalypse.

In it, Adnan worked through her trauma of what she observed and experienced – contrasting these bleak horrors with the omnipotent, elevated Sun, a ruler over wisdom and life, at once a witness and a destroyer; but above all, as the only constant in a world that has fallen into madness.
