New Work - Sound & Installation

The Rapture - Disinformation

Live optokinetic video and sound installation.

“Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm, for love is as strong as death, and jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which burn with a vehement flame” – “The Song of Solomon” – chapter 8, verse 6

“The Rapture” video installation - exhibited for the first time at Cable Depot, London, June to July 2022 - offers an image of psychological transcendence; the portrait is of an individual, in serene composure, calmly meditating on the subject of their own mortality. “The Rapture” is a newly created optokinetic artwork, which uses a crude but effective form of generative video circuit, to conjure images of billowing flames, live, on-site and in real-time. The subject in “The Rapture” installation is surrounded by a halo of fire.

Bearing in mind the hypothesis that speech itself may have evolved, at least part, from the act of blowing on fire, the soundtrack for “The Rapture” presents ancestral speech sounds, distorted to the point of almost total abstraction. “The Rapture” soundtrack features a recording of a poem read by the producer’s grandfather, processed using a form of speech encryption technology - language returned to an almost primal state, to the sound of wind, and the sound of waves.

“Disinformation combine scientific nous with poetic lyricism to create some of the most beautiful installations around” - Jessica Lack, The Guardian
