New Work - Painting

Thrush Holmes - What's it all for?

What’s it all for? will be the first solo exhibition with Unit London from Toronto-based artist Thrush Holmes. With pieces that emulate the audience experience of theatre or music, the exhibition will present his reinterpretation of traditional still life painting incorporated with neon lights. The lights eluminate the work with gestures. Holmes considers his artworks as “ultra-graffiti”, where strips of neon slice through his compositions in an act that could almost equate to defacement.

Thrush Holmes (b.1979) is a self-taught painter, who has exhibited widely throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. Holmes’ work can be found in multiple important collections such as the Elton John Aids Foundation, the Collection of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Collection of Grant Gilbert, Government of Ontario Art Collection, the Collection of Yusaku Maezawa and Defjam Records.
