William Waterworth - What Am I Doing Here?
"Man's real home is not a house, but the Road, and that life itself is a journey to be walked on foot.”
- Bruce Chatwin, What Am I Doing Here, 1988
Having been inspired by Sally Man’s photography book, Immediate Family, William Waterworth (b.1996) decided to move to Paris to study Photography. He spent the year wondering the Parisian streets, soaking in its ambience – he notes Jeanloup Sieff and Jacques Henri Lartigue as great inspirations.
In Waterworth’s second solo show, we see the artistrespond to Bruce Chatwin’s last book, What Am I Doing Here (1988). Waterworth’s assemblage of photographs, short stories and poems from friends, grapples with Chatwin’s disparate collection of fictional short stories, reportage and profiles of his life in visual format.
