Zombra - Aztec Heart
Hackney Gallery is pleased to present ZOMBRA’S first London solo show, Aztec Heart. “Zombra is a bastardisation of sombra, the Spanish word for shadow, which is pretty apt because he hasn’t seen sunlight yet this millennium. He’s a Shadow-Being in the corner of your every blink”. Quoted from journalist & writer Ron Seal who’s words will be featured in Zombra’s 500 limited zine run, available in our store.
The cult Mexican graffiti writer and artist will exhibit a series of paintings and sculptures that integrate the street, and art: something that street art rarely manages to do. His chaotic paintings straddle the gap between experimental art and public destruction.
"Sprayed on the side of earthquake-proof subway carriages that run on rubber tyres, on the walls of pharmacies, sex cinemas and Insurgentes tiles, below barking dogs that live on Nezahualcóyotl rooftops, among the piles of courgette flowers in La Merced, and over corporate sculptures in the financial district... everywhereism." - Ron Seal
